What is Aeronautical Engineering

An Aeronautical engineer is the individual who is responsible for the research, design, building, development, construction, testing, science and technology science of aircraft. The field is closely related to astronautical engineering; both aeronautical and are branches of aerospace engineering.

An Aerospace engineering is the primary field of engineering concerned with the development of aircraft and spacecraft. It is divided into two major and overlapping branches: aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering.

An Aircraft maintenance engineering is branch of Aeronautical engineering deals with maintenance/ inspection and certification of aircraft.

(All three separately defined because lots of students / applicant get confused with the terms, due to various institutes / colleges /universities running courses in different terms)

Minimum Qualification to Join Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering Course

Minimum qualification to join colleges for Aeronautical Engineering course, you must have completed 10+2 with Physical, Chemistry and mathematics (PCM).

There is various entrance examination conducted by Top Universities / Colleges in India / Abroad. In India Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) also offers graduation and post graduation course in Aeronautical Stream though entrance.

Other than the regular course various autonomous institutes or open universities offers courses in Aeronautical / Aerospace stream. Like Aeronautical Society of India offers graduation level course in Aeronautical Branch.

There are four types of course mainly:

(1) Diploma Course– Minimum Qualification is 10+2 with PCM

(2) Graduation Course – Minimum Qualification is 10+2 with PCM.

(3) Post Graduation Course – Minimum Qualification is B.E. or B. Tech in Aeronautical / Aerospace / Astronautical or same branch.

(4) P.H.D Level Course – Minimum Qualification is Post Graduation in relevant stream.

Streams in Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering

(1) Avionics – Deals with electrical, electronic science.
(2) Mechanical- Deals with mechanical systems of aircrafts.

Duration of Course:

(1) Diploma Course– Minimum 03 Years
(2) Graduation Course – Minimum 04 Years
(3) Post Graduation Course – Minimum 02 years.
(4) P.H.D Level Course – Minimum 02 Years or Project based.
