NDT Engineer (Engine Maintenance Centre)

Job Purpose

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a critically important function within aircraft engine maintenance, where multiple methods can be used to determine if defect indications exist within engine parts. The NDT Level III is a specialist regulatory required (nominated) position with broad responsibility for the maintenance organisation’s activities, ranging from management of the company’s techniques and procedures, traing and personnel authorisations to expertise of the NDT facilities and ensuring regulatory compliance.Job Accountabilities– Acceptance by the applicable Aviation Authorities as EEMC (Emirates Engineering Maintenance Centre) Nominated Post Holder NDT, and performing all duties expected in this capacity, as detailed within their published regulatory requirements and guidance. – Ensuring EEMC remains compliant to all applicable NDT requirements, for example (but not limited to) GCAA (General Civil Aviation Authority) CAR (Civil Aviation Regulations) 145 / EASA (Accelerate-Stop Distance Available) Part-145 regulatory requirements, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) published maintenance requirements, and applicable industry standards. – Regular review and revision as required of EEMC’s NDT procedures to ensure compliance with all such requirements, and management responsibility for ensuring associated compliance actions are completed.– Maintaining own Level III certification in all required methods, and if any gaps exist identifying where necessary any additional Level III support required to ensure adequate coverage.– Approval/authorisation of all EEMC NDT procedures, techniques, plant, equipment and personnel. This covers both initial and ongoing requirements, documentation authoring and ownership responsibility, management of technical requirements of plant and equipment, and ensuring the continuous availability of suitably trained and qualified people in order to meet EEMC’s business needs.– Establishing and maintaining an internal audit schedule covering all EEMC NDT activity, including issuing audit reports and management, tracking and verification of associated actions. – Ensuring all EEMC NDT facilities, equipment and consumables are approved and suitable for use. This includes organising and managing a system of periodic preventative maintenance and checks on facilities and equipment, stock quality/quantity and shelf-life control for required consumable material, and effective communication with the production planning and management teams to ensure sufficient availability to meet EEMC’s planned workload. – Providing NDT expertise to all NDT and company personnel as required. This includes, but is not limited to, mentoring of NDT staff through their training and on an ongoing basis, specialist technical support to the Operations and Engineering communities on NDT related matters, technical liaison with OEMs, Aviation Authorities and industry bodies relating to NDT, and keeping up to date on industry developments relevant to EEMC. – The applicable NDT methods, which may be amended as required by business needs from time to time, are as follows: Fluorescent Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Eddy Current, Ultrasonic

Qualifications & Experience

– Vocational or Diploma (12+2 years or equivalent) – Must have completed an apprenticeship with an airline/approved organisation or have received equivalent formal training – 12 years experience in Aviation Maintenance Environment with at least 5 years experience working as an Engineer with full scope certifying experience in engines – Must hold ASNT or EN4179 Level III qualification in the following NDT Methods – Fluorescent Penetrant and Magnetic Particle – Eddy Current and Ultrasonic qualification is advantageous – Demonstrated experience in leading a team of mechanics / technicians
