About the role

The Senior Manager Engineering – Power Plant is responsible for creating and leading the implementation of operational strategy that ensures the organization meets all required safety and compliance requirements in this area. In this role, you will ensure that aero engines and auxiliary power plants are compliant with all applicable and future airworthiness requirements, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), safety regulations, operational requirements, corporate requirements and maintained at highest levels of technical dispatch reliability. 

You will develop strategic and tactical plans for the Power Plant Engineering team to implement on-wing and off-wing engine activities to optimize the cost of engine maintenance and provide expertise for Power Plant contract negotiations. 

Key accountabilities for the role includes:


Setting the objectives and priorities for short, medium and long-term plans and action items in order to achieve the targets and objectives for aircraft technical dispatch reliability. Developing and reviewing procedures and processes for efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with applicable regulations and requirements. Initiating new procedures or revision to existing procedures, as required. Developing applicable quality and safety processes and procedures with in areas of assigned responsibility. Establishing and managing a safety management system. Ensuring an adequate independent quality audit system is developed, managed and maintained. Establishing and managing implementation of appropriate control measures / key performance indicators related to safety and compliance. Establishing targets for engine and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) maintenance costs both on and off wing and providing guidance to the teams to achieve them.


Having an overall responsibility for Power Plant and APU management.  Managing physical, financial and human resources to ensure all products are delivered on time and within budget. Initiating all possible measures to maintain a high level of Technical Dispatch Reliability. Ensuring timely compliance with all airworthiness and regulatory data such as Airworthiness Directives, Regulatory Requirements or other mandatory data. Implementing check and balances to ensure accuracy of maintenance data produced by section. Developing methods to optimize on and off wing engine maintenance cost and providing guidance to the teams to implement them. Reviewing and monitoring of technical issues and action items periodically whilst ensuring that Engineering Management is briefed on the status of all critical items. Providing effective technical support and expertise to all QR Departments/ sections on matters related to Power Plants. Developing training plans and facilitating development of other employees for proper succession planning and risk management. Identifying the training needs and develop the staff accordingly to maximize productivity and efficiency.

Management and Leadership

Champions a continuous improvement culture and provide improvement coaching and mentorship support to the team. Establishes the Department’s or Team’s objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives. Regularly evaluates the department or team objectives, plans, procedures and practices and makes appropriate changes if required.

About you

As an essential requirement for this role, you should hold a Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent with minimum of 10 years job-related experience.  You have experience in technical management within Development Engineering discipline. You are in a management level role for a minimum of 5 years or more, with exposure to providing leadership and strategic direction to your team.

Engine experience is required. In addition, you must have experience in engine contracts negotiations and cost managements. You must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with expert knowledge in the area of Technical Engineering.

You are able to work in a highly pressurized working environment with high volume activities.  You have previous experience in engaging with a diverse workforce and a proven record of accomplishment of developing action plans and measuring its success.  You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You must have good managerial skills with the ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. You are able to work under pressure and within tight timeframes and deadlines. You have exceptional people values, very adept at bringing out strengths in others. You inspire and motivate teams and individuals to meet the organization’s vision and goals. You have the ability to provide a conducive work place that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork. You have strong service orientation and cross cultural awareness.
