What are Athodyd Engines?

ATHODYD ENGINES

The word ATHODYD drived from the word “Aero Thermodynamic  Duct” .  This ATHODYDs differs from the general Gas Turbine Engines group in that the Turbine Wheel and Compressor Assemblies are ommited.

Example of Athodyd Engines are RAMJET  Engine and PULSEJET  Engine.

RAMJET

The RAMJET engines are simple air breathing engine in which

  • Incoming Air is compressed by RAM Pressure
  • Addition of Heat Energy into High Pressure
  • Conversion of Heat Energy into high velocity and result in Thurst.

RAMJET Engines have no mechnaical compressors, as the kinetic energy of the incoming air is converted into pressure.

As the RAMJET functionality  is depends upon the incoming air, the RAMJET will not operate statically. Therefore, the RAMJET requires the Turbojet or rocket , add an assitantance to accelerate it to operating speed. Due to the lack of the static thrust, RAMJET applications are limited.

  • Diffuser
  • Fuel Injector
  • Flame Holder
  • Combustion Chamber
  • Exit Nozzle

The functionaliy of each components can be easity understand by their names.

 

 

PULSEJET

 

The PULSEJET is also known as BUZZ ENGINE OR AERORESONATOR OR PULSATINGJET Engine. The PULSEJET can produce statc thrust.

Components of PULSEJET

  • Flapper Valve Box Assembly
  • Fuel Injectors
  • Combustion Chamber
  • Spark Igniters
  • Tail Pipe

PULSEJET Engine is operating on Four Cycles:

  • Initial Intake Cycle
  • Ignition Cycle
  • Exhaust Cycle
  • Recycle Intake

The applications of PULSEJET is limited due to its operating speed limit.
